How to beat Mohg, Lord of Blood in Elden Ring
Mohg, Lord of Blood, is a mighty Omen boss found deep within the Siofra River region in Elden Ring. Legend has it that he attained his strength through an alliance with an Outer God known as the Formless Mother. You can also encounter another variant of this boss, Mohg, the Omen, located in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds beneath Leyndell, Royal Capital.
This Lord of Blood also happens to be the twin brother of Morgott, the Omen King, who protects the passage to the Erdtree within the Royal Capital in Elden Ring. Despite their sibling connection, each has their own distinct combat approach that sets them apart from one another.
Mohg, Lord of Blood plays a key role in unlocking the DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. His location can be accessed via the waygate at the Mountaintops of the Giants during the game’s end, though players can start earlier by following Varre’s quest to gain access. Defeating the Lord of Blood is a tough challenge, as he’s one of the most difficult bosses in Elden Ring, so come prepared with the right gear and strategy.
Where To Find Mohg, Lord of Blood in Elden Ring
Mohg, Lord of Blood, can be located just southwest of the Dynasty Mausoleum Entrance Site of Lost Grace in Mohgwyn Palace. You can reach this underground zone by using a waygate near the Yelough Anix Ruins in the Consecrated Snowfield.
To access the secret area in the Mountaintops of the Giants, players will need to obtain the Haligtree Secret Medallion and use it at the Grand Lift of Rold.
Alternatively, players can enter Mohgwyn Palace earlier in the game by completing the first parts of the White Mask Varré questline.
Once the Lord of Blood’s Favor is soaked in a maiden’s blood, you can speak to Elden Ring’s Varee to receive the Pureblood Knight’s Medal. This item will transport players to Mohgwyn Palace for an audience with Mohg, Lord of Blood.
Mohg, Lord of Blood, employs numerous attacks that cause Bleed (Hemorrhage) and Fire damage, though oddly enough, he is weak to Bleed. The Swarm of Flies Elden Ring Incantation will prove to be a vital tool in this fight.
In addition to Bleed, Mohg is also susceptible to Physical attacks and Gravity spells. Conversely, he’s immune to Fire, Frostbite, Scarlet Rot, and Poison.
Having the right armor can make all the difference in minimizing damage. Players should aim to equip armor with high robustness and Fire resistance. While no armor in Elden Ring can offer complete protection from his attacks, it will certainly reduce the overall damage taken.
Mohg’s fight comes in two stages. In the first phase, he moves slower and is easier to hit. However, once you trigger his second phase, things ramp up considerably as he becomes more mobile, often taking to the air. Below are the details of his key attacks.
Bloodflame Talons
Mohg swipes his left arm, creating three large fiery slashes that explode after a delay. To avoid this, players should dodge the slashes before they detonate.Bloodboon
During this attack, Mohg summons bloodflame and hurls it at players, leaving lingering fire on the ground that causes Hemorrhage build-up. Bloodboon comes in two forms: a horizontal arc and a rain of bloodflame. To dodge the arc, roll into the attack while avoiding the flames on the ground, and for the rain, circle around him before dodging, then take the opportunity to land a few hits.Spear Swings
Mohg swings his spear in a series of 3-4 combos. Players should roll through each swing, and when he slams his spear down, there’s an opening to attack.Mohg’s Shackle is a special item that can stagger him during his first phase. Players can find it in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds near Leyndell Catacombs.
Thrust
In this move, Mohg charges forward with a thrust attack. If dodged successfully, players will have a good chance to counterattack. Gravitational attacks like the Elden Ring Rock Sling work particularly well here.
Ritual Countdown
Mohg raises his spear and chants “Trēs”, “Duo”, and “Ūnus”, placing red rings around the player with each count. This attack leaves Mohg’s back vulnerable, giving players an opportunity to strike.Blood Ritual
The Blood Ritual is Mohg’s most devastating move. When his health drops low, he raises his weapon and shouts “Nihil” three times, draining the red rings and dealing massive damage to the player while healing himself.
While this attack can’t be avoided, players can acquire the Purifying Crystal Tear from Bloody Finger Eleonara to negate the effects of Mohg’s Nihil ability.
Airborne Assault
During the second phase, Mohg grows large wings and flies into the air, then charges downwards with a powerful swing. The best way to avoid this attack is to roll toward him instead of away.
When Mohg, Lord of Blood, is defeated, players will receive 420,000 Runes, Mohg’s Great Rune, and the Remembrance of the Blood Lord.
