The recent buzz surrounding the Switch 2 has sparked curiosity regarding its Joy-Con mouse feature and its compatibility with non-traditional surfaces. A humorous yet pertinent question arose: Can the Switch 2 mouse function effectively on pants?
Performance on Various Surfaces
Initial tests showed that the mouse operated seamlessly on corduroy pants while playing titles like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Utilizing both Joy-Cons for the game Drag x Drive required maneuvering my hands across my legs, but the performance was satisfactory.
To further investigate, I experimented with several additional surfaces. The mouse tracking worked flawlessly on the bare skin of my arm and the aluminum casing of my MacBook Air. A leather wallet also served as a functional surface, albeit its small size posed a challenge.
User Feedback and Additional Testing
A friend who previously worked at Polygon, Megan Farokhmanesh, confirmed the mouse’s compatibility with her tights. In a light-hearted test, I attempted to use the mouse on the top of my head, which surprisingly worked as well. While this isn’t a practical application for gaming, it provided amusing footage that is sure to engage viewers on social platforms.
In summary, the Switch 2 mouse does indeed function on unconventional surfaces, including fabric and skin. While its practicality may be questionable, it showcases the innovative capabilities of the new device.
