Kingston Council has entered a collaboration with Boldyn Networks to enhance digital connectivity significantly in Kingston town centre and Surbiton. This initiative aims to attract digital infrastructure investment aligned with the council’s Digital Strategy, ultimately improving services for residents and local businesses.

As one of London’s 32 boroughs, Kingston is situated approximately 16 kilometers southwest of central London, serving a population of around 165,000. The town centre is notable for its extensive shopping options, ranking highly among locations outside the West End. Cultural attractions include the Guildhall Art Gallery, Kingston Museum, Kingston History Centre, and the Rose Theatre, complemented by Kingston University and a vibrant nightlife.
Project Details
The digital infrastructure project will feature the installation of high-speed fibre connections to 58 CCTV locations across Kingston, facilitated by a new 10-kilometer fibre network. Work is scheduled to begin in April 2025, aiming to enhance internet connectivity for both local businesses and residents while upgrading CCTV services for public safety.
Some connections will be provided by Virgin Media Business, while Boldyn Networks will handle the majority. The project is expected to wrap up by February 2026, with a commitment from Boldyn to minimize disruption during implementation.
Funding and Support
This initiative is financed through the Greater London Authority’s Strategic Investment Fund, which supports digital upgrades across London. It is also part of the Mayor of London’s Connected London programme, designed to increase digital connectivity and deliver economic and social benefits to local communities.
