According to NetEase’s recent earnings report, the popular game Marvel Rivals has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing 40 million players across various platforms. The game’s success has been notable since its launch on December 6, quickly topping the Steam global bestsellers chart and accumulating over 10 million registered users within just 72 hours.
Marvel Rivals Player Milestones
Within its first eleven days, Marvel Rivals gained over 20 million players, and by the end of its first month, it was estimated to have generated more than $135 million in revenue. Despite this success, NetEase made the controversial decision to disband the Western support team, opting to centralize development in China. This move has raised concerns among fans regarding the game’s future support, but NetEase maintains that it remains committed to the game’s ongoing development.
Upcoming Update Details
On January 25, 2025, Marvel Rivals is slated for an update that introduces the final two members of the Fantastic Four: Human Torch, a Duelist character, and The Thing, classified as a Vanguard. Additionally, the update will unveil a new Convergence map, titled Empire of Eternal Night: Central Park.
Gameplay Enhancements
- The update will provide an extra 0.5 seconds of grace time at the end of overtime across all modes, reducing abrupt game endings caused by specific hero abilities or minor zone deviations.
- In Quick Mode, matchmaking for substitute players will cease once a match is nearing its conclusion.
- Improvements in loading times at the start of matches are also part of this update.
Technical Improvements
From a technical perspective, this update will incorporate NVIDIA DLSS 4 support, allowing users with GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs to utilize DLSS Multi Frame Generation. This functionality was evaluated in the GeForce RTX 5090 review, which highlighted the enhanced capabilities of the feature.
Enhanced Performance for AMD Users
AMD users can also benefit from improvements in frame pacing when using FSR 3 Frame Generation, which aims to deliver a smoother gaming experience. Furthermore, AMD Radeon Anti-Lag 2 is now available to help reduce system latency, although it requires at least an AMD Radeon RX 5000 Series GPU.
