Meet the 25-Year-Old Police Drone Innovator Who Just Secured $75 Million from Index!

In emergency situations, particularly in hard-to-reach areas, drones are becoming integral to rapid response efforts. One of the leading companies in this space is Brinc Drones, established in 2017 by Blake Resnick, a 25-year-old entrepreneur who left college to focus on his startup.

Funding and Valuation

Brinc Drones recently secured $75 million in funding, spearheaded by Index Ventures. This round brings the company’s total investment to approximately $157.2 million. Although the exact valuation is not disclosed, Resnick indicated that this funding represents an increase compared to their previous financing round, a $55 million Series B completed in 2022. Bloomberg reported that Brinc was valued at $300 million in 2023.

Product Offerings and Partnerships

Brinc specializes in developing advanced drone systems targeted at police and public safety agencies. The company is part of a growing trend among U.S. drone manufacturers that are moving away from international reliance, notably from Chinese firms that have historically dominated the commercial drone market. Resnick’s prior experience as an intern at DJI highlights this shift.

With the new funding, Brinc is forming a strategic partnership with Motorola Solutions, a prominent figure in the security sector. This collaboration aims to integrate Brinc’s drones directly into 911 call centers, enabling operators to deploy drones for specific emergencies, pending approval from an existing Motorola AI system.

Competitive Landscape

Brinc operates within a highly competitive environment that includes other notable U.S. startups such as Flock Safety and Skydio. These companies also focus on law enforcement and have achieved significant valuations, with Flock recently valued at $7.5 billion and Skydio at $2.2 billion in 2023.

Despite the intense competition, Resnick maintains that there is substantial market potential. He believes that Brinc can distinguish itself through unique capabilities, such as the ability of its drones to break windows or transport emergency medical supplies, in addition to their partnership with Motorola.
