Reburn, formerly known as 4A Games Ukraine, recently announced their new sci-fi first-person shooter, La Quimera. In response, 4A Games’ Malta office issued a statement to clarify their ongoing projects and the separation of the two studios.
Separation of Studios
4A Games Malta is now an independent entity, continuing the legacy of the Metro franchise. They are currently developing the next Metro installment alongside franchise creator Dmitry Glukhovsky, affirming that the original team, which has nearly two decades of experience, remains intact.
Approximately 150 out of 200+ developers continue to operate from Ukraine, alongside teams based in Malta and remote locations, illustrating the studio’s commitment to its Ukrainian roots while also adapting to current circumstances.
Future Developments
The team at 4A Games has confirmed that they are not undergoing any rebranding and will maintain their focus on the Metro series, which includes notable titles such as Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light, Metro Redux, and Metro Exodus. The studio expressed eagerness to share details regarding both the new Metro game and their other intellectual property currently in development.
In collaboration with Deep Silver and Plaion, 4A Games has been diligently working on the Metro series while facilitating an outsourcing relationship with their former Ukrainian colleagues, who have now transitioned to developing La Quimera under the Reburn name.
Anticipated Releases
The last main installment of the Metro franchise, Metro Exodus, was released over six years ago. While the game received expansions and the Enhanced Edition, fans are eagerly awaiting new content in the series. A VR title, Metro Awakening, was developed by Vertigo Games but did not fulfill the community’s desire for a full-scale game.
In August 2019, THQ Nordic (now part of Embracer Group) announced the development of a new Metro game. Although the studio has kept a low profile since then, they confirmed about a year ago that the new installment is set for release in ‘202X’. Speculation within the industry indicates that the game could potentially be fully playable, with expectations for a launch in late 2025 or early 2026.
