As the world increasingly embraces artificial intelligence (AI), the concept of sovereign AI—keeping systems and data within a country’s jurisdiction—has gained significance for national security and regulatory compliance. Australian cloud provider ResetData is at the forefront of this initiative, having established a new networking backbone powered by Nokia. This infrastructure will facilitate the swift deployment of sovereign AI factory datacentres throughout Australia.

ResetData’s AI Offerings

ResetData, with support from Centuria Capital Group, is focused on providing an array of services, including AI factories, an AI marketplace, and cloud solutions to deliver onshore, on-demand AI machine learning and large language model capabilities for both government and enterprise sectors. The company aims to capitalize on a business landscape where 90% of data is under two years old, 80% is unstructured, and 70% of enterprises leverage AI to harness this data.

Technological Innovations in AI Infrastructure

To ensure efficiency, ResetData’s AI factories utilize liquid immersion cooling technology, which is reported to be up to ten times more effective than traditional cooling methods. This innovation can result in a 40% reduction in cloud costs and a 45% decrease in emissions, promoting sustainable AI cloud operations. In stark contrast, legacy air-cooled data centres often consume more energy in cooling than in computation.

ResetData also features a multi-megawatt H200 GPU-cluster supercomputer, certified by NVIDIA, designed to enhance AI training and inference speed. The rollout commences with AI-F1, the nation’s first sovereign public AI factory, located in Melbourne’s central business district, slated for launch in the second quarter of 2025.

Collaboration with Nokia

Beginning in Melbourne, ResetData will install the Nokia 7750 Service Router across commercial properties nationwide as part of its initiative to create advanced, sustainable AI factories. Nokia’s FP5-based IP platform promises fast, reliable, and secure performance capable of a 75% reduction in energy consumption compared to prior generations, addressing the precision and timing requirements crucial for effective AI operations.

This setup will also serve as a critical gateway between ResetData’s Graphics Processing Unit clusters, enabling robust connectivity between datacentres and the internet, with routing speeds reaching up to 800Gbps.

Strategic Insights

According to Karl Kloppenborg, the Chief Technology Officer at ResetData, the collaboration with Nokia is vital for delivering essential AI, machine learning, and large language model capabilities onshore and on-demand for the first time in Australia. The partnership emphasizes a commitment to sustainability and local resources to meet demanding timelines for scaling operations.

Vach Kompella, Senior Vice-President and General Manager of IP Networks at Nokia, expressed confidence in the partnership, highlighting Nokia’s readiness to support dynamic cloud builders like ResetData. He emphasized the alignment of speed, capacity, reliability, cost-efficiency, and sustainability as key factors in establishing secure and modern datacentres.
