Nvidia is set to release the GeForce RTX 5070 on March 5. However, the Founders Edition will not be available until later in March, according to a statement from Nvidia shared by Andreas Schilling at Hardwareluxx, which came just before the release of reviews.
Availability and Launch Details
While the Founders Edition will have a delayed launch, third-party models from manufacturers like Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI are expected to be available on the initial release date. Stock may be limited, with some retailers potentially lacking inventory right at launch.
Specifications of the RTX 5070
The RTX 5070 is priced at $549, making it the most affordable option in the RTX 50 series. It boasts 6,144 CUDA cores, 192 Tensor Cores (5th Gen), and 48 Ray Tracing Cores (4th Gen). The GPU operates at a boost clock speed of 2,512 MHz and includes 12GB of GDDR7 memory, supported by a 192-bit interface that delivers a memory bandwidth of 672 GB/sec.
Performance Comparison
In performance tests, the RTX 5070 outstrips its predecessor, the RTX 4070, by 19% at 1440p and 22% at 4K resolutions. However, the advantage decreases to 16% at 1080p ultra settings and 14% at 1080p medium settings, likely due to factors such as CPU bottlenecks. When compared to the RTX 5070 Ti, the 5070 is approximately 20% slower at 1440p and 24% at 4K. It also underperforms against the Radeon RX 7900 XT by about 11-13%, but it does outperform the RX 7800 XT by around 17%.
Future Options for Consumers
Consumers awaiting the Founders Edition will need to look out for further announcements from Nvidia regarding its availability later this month. In the meantime, potential buyers can consider third-party models of the RTX 5070 or explore AMD’s upcoming Radeon RX 9070, which is set to launch a day later, on March 6. AMD is expected to have better stock availability for their new cards, presenting a competitive edge in the market.
