People Can Fly Secures Deal to Create Exciting New Game Inspired by Sony’s Rich IPs

Polish game developer People Can Fly has secured a partnership with Sony to create a prototype for an undisclosed franchise from the PlayStation lineup. This new project, referred to as Project Delta, has limited details revealed at this stage.

Production Agreement Overview

The collaboration is structured under a Production Agreement that outlines a ‘work-for-hire model’. This means that People Can Fly will be commissioned as a developer by Sony, with payments agreed upon for completed milestones throughout the project’s development.

Previous Collaborations

People Can Fly has experience with similar partnerships, having worked with Microsoft earlier in 2023 on a project believed to be linked to the Gears of War franchise. This partnership eventually led to the confirmation of Gears of War: E-Day, a title developed in cooperation with The Coalition. Such collaborations underscore the studio’s strong background in the shooter genre, highlighted by titles like Painkiller, Bulletstorm, and Outriders.

Fan Anticipation

With People Can Fly’s established history in the industry, speculation among PlayStation fans has been stirred regarding potential revival projects for beloved yet dormant franchises like Resistance or Killzone, especially since the original developers, Insomniac and Guerrilla Games, are currently focused on other projects.

Shift in Development Focus

Additionally, People Can Fly has recently announced a strategic shift away from developing Virtual Reality games, citing insufficient investments in the VR space from platform holders. The studio intends to redirect its efforts towards traditional triple-A game development through self-publishing, work-for-hire, and co-development arrangements.
