Sony’s Big Announcement? PS2 Price Cut
It’s here. It’s been announced. Sony’s big story? A price drop for the Playstation 2.
The PS2, which is beginning it’s ninth year on the shelves of retailers, will be receiving an almost 25% price cut tomorrow (from $130 to $100), April 1st. The price drop is because of improvements in manufacturing that will allow Sony to consolidate components.
Despite it’s age and the new PS3 console, the PS2 has remained surprisingly popular, due to the large collection of games and the low price. New games being continually published also seem to lend to its longevity.
This year Sony expects to sell 8 million of the PS2 consoles, with their estimates for the PS3 only slightly higher at 10 million.
