According to Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling (fourtwozero) the Steam ban hammer came down on about 2,500 confirmed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 cheaters. The tweet from last Friday does not offer more detail than that on the bans.

Infinity Ward claimed that the use of IWNet and VAC, and the end of dedicated servers would provide a cheater-free experience. VAC is an automated banning system, however, and can take longer than manual methods. These are the first known bannings since the games release nearly three weeks ago.
