Nintendo Life Mailbox – March 2025
“indulge in said bells” (***STAR LETTER***)
As an avid gamer, I’ve always been intrigued by mid-gen console refreshes like the Switch OLED or PS5 Pro. However, the upgrades haven’t compelled me to invest, especially with the upcoming “Switch 2” looming. I wonder if I should wait for a potential “Switch 2 OLED” instead. I have a substantial backlog on my original Switch, which could last for several years, yet I can’t shake the fear of missing out on new releases like Mario Kart 9. Is it time for me to hold off on upgrading and enjoy what I have? Has anyone else felt similarly?
LimitedPower
Many gamers share this sentiment of balancing their existing library and the allure of new hardware. It’s understandable to be hesitant about spending on a mid-gen upgrade, especially when there are so many amazing titles available to enjoy on existing systems. – Ed.
“just normal”
Is there really value in achieving 100% completion in games? After over 20 years of gaming, I find that once I reach around 70-80%, I feel satisfied enough to move on. I enjoy games like Mario and Spyro, but when I hit a wall, I’m quick to give up and proceed to the next title. Is it common to just enjoy games without worrying about completing them fully?
Kevin Bryant
Your approach seems quite healthy, Kevin! Many gamers can relate to the desire to move on rather than obsess over completion. Ultimately, gaming is about enjoyment, and there’s no right or wrong way to engage with it. – Ed.
“if you’ll humor me”
Hey Nintendo Life staff! I would love to suggest a monthly poll for Supporter Reviews, where supporters vote on which games you’d cover. This could help prioritize our interests without locking content behind a paywall. I love your reviews and would like to see even more!
Solomon
This is an interesting suggestion, Solomon! We appreciate the feedback. Our goal is to include our entire community in discussions about content without limiting participation. – Ed.
“the Birt”
Hi Nintendo Life, what was your spark game that got you into gaming? For me, it was Splatoon on Wii U, and later, Wind Waker HD. I’ve gamed since getting my Wii in 2008 but didn’t truly dive in until Splatoon.
OswaldTheLuckyGamer
For many of us, certain games hold special places in our hearts. Mine would be Castle of Illusion on the Mega Drive; those experiences defined my gaming journey. Here are a few from the team:
- “Ocarina of Time for me!” – Jim
- “Sonic 3 was the first game I completely fell in love with.” – Alana
“photographs of game… things”
How do you source the fantastic images for your articles? Do you have a collection of games, or is it a team effort? I always enjoy articles for their content and visuals!
Kurt Asbestos
Thanks for the compliment, Kurt! Over the years, we’ve built a robust photo library, thanks to contributions from our team members. We often coordinate internally to source specific images for articles, enabling us to provide engaging visuals alongside our content. – Ed.
“pancakes and BotW”
How about sharing the best memories of single-player games with someone? My cousin and I spent a summer solving puzzles in Link’s Awakening, and for a year, I’d take my Switch to my brother’s house every Saturday for pancakes and Breath of the Wild.
Dark_Isatari
That sounds wonderful! Shared gaming experiences, especially over something as delightful as pancakes, create lasting memories. I hope to share many such moments with my children as they grow. Here are some shared experiences from the team:
- “Trading Pokémon tips with friends back in school during Black and White was unforgettable.” – Jim
- “Playing narrative-driven games with my partner creates a special bond.” – Alana
“isn’t really a problem”
Can I express conflicting feelings about the prevalence of Unreal Engine in games? Part of me wishes for more variety in engines, while I recognize the benefits of using it. Are we in a state of Unreal Engine saturation?
Willax
It’s an interesting perspective, Willax. While some may feel overwhelmed by the number of games using similar engines, it’s essential to consider the efficiency and access that these tools provide to developers. A diverse range of engines can lead to more unique gaming experiences. – Ed.
Bonus Letters
“I’m an actor and voice artist who has worked on games for Nintendo platforms, but I have no insider information to share. I feel like I’m letting everyone down.” – Mana_Knight
We appreciate your honesty, Mana_Knight! Your contributions to gaming are still invaluable. – Ed.
