AMD recently hosted a press briefing where it unveiled additional details about the upcoming Radeon RX 9000-series graphics cards and the RDNA 4 architecture. A critical highlight was the announcement of performance benchmarks for the new Radeon RX 9070 XT, which reportedly surpasses the Radeon RX 7900 GRE significantly. According to newly released data, the RX 9070 XT is estimated to be 42% to 168% faster at 4K resolution under ultra-quality settings when compared to the RX 7900 GRE across over 30 games, as reported by VideoCardz.

Performance Insights of the Radeon RX 9070 XT

AMD asserts that the Radeon RX 9070 XT outperforms the RX 7900 GRE by an average of 38% at 1440p and 42% at 2160p. In specific titles that heavily utilize ray tracing, such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Hitman 3, the performance improvements can reach an impressive 164% to 168%. This underscores the effectiveness of AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture in executing ray tracing tasks.

Games Benefiting from the New Architecture

Games optimized for ray tracing have experienced the most substantial performance gains. Titles including Cyberpunk 2077, Dying Light 2, F1 2024, and Hitman 3 show enhancements ranging from 56% to 66%, positioning the Radeon RX 9070 series as strong competitors among the top graphics cards anticipated for release.

Comparison with the Radeon RX 9070 (Non-XT)

When contrasted with the non-XT version, the Radeon RX 9070 XT averages a performance difference of 16.1% at 1440p Ultra settings and 18.3% at 2160p Ultra settings. Nonetheless, the non-XT variant still delivers a robust performance increase of 20% and 21% at 1440p and 2160p, respectively, over the RX 7900 GRE.

AMD’s Position in the Market

AMD acknowledged that it did not possess a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti for comparison, leading to the decision not to measure its new flagship against some of Nvidia’s prominent models. It also refrained from benchmarking the RX 9070 XT against the higher-end RX 7900 XTX, which features a compute performance that is approximately 25% lower than that of the RX 7900 XTX, while still offering 16GB of memory compared to the 24GB on the XTX model.

In contrast to AMD’s approach, Nvidia promotes its advancements through upscaling technologies like frame generation. However, AMD emphasizes native rendering and ray tracing performance, which results in tangible performance improvements. More detailed information will be disclosed during the official launch of the Radeon RX 9070-series products on February 28.
